The number “A50” comes from the 1889 Hawksley catalogue, where it is called the “Hawksley’s Patent “Clip” Cartridge Turnover”

It is sometimes difficult to decide whether it is a A50, a A44 or a AA44. If possible it is mentioned at this place.

Because of its ebony handles and black painted levers I assume it is a lower quality



The shell tube is quite short, 38 mm. There is quite some variation in the lengths of these tubes.


There is also quite some variation in the top of the screw of the table clamp. This one is round and has a fixed connection  Some tops are triangle shaped, some square, some round
