The 1882 catalogue describes this tool as:
Vertical loading machine and horizontal closer, Purdey’s Pattern with solid rammer for central fire cartridges. It is however not only for central fire cartridge. There is a slot in it for the pin.
I don’t know what “Purdey’s Pattern”is.
